LX Pantos Takes Strides in ESG Management

with Green Packaging

- Replacing stretch film with recycled packaging materials

- Signing a tripartite MOU with AJ Networks and LogisTong for the supply of green packaging materials

- Setting the stage for a large corporation-SME ecosystem for resource circulation

LX Pantos is fully transitioning from plastic packaging materials used in logistics centers to eco-friendly alternatives. The company plans to practice green logistics and enhance its ESG management by replacing conventional chemical-based packaging materials with eco-friendly recycled products.

On June 8, 2023, LX Pantos announced the signing of a tripartite MOU with AJ Networks and LogisTong for a Green Logistics Practices and Eco-Friendly Components and Materials Supply Business Agreement for SME Win-Win Partnership.

Under the agreement, LX Pantos is introducing recycled stretch film in its logistics centers nationwide starting in July 2023. LogisTong, an SME specializing in logistics subsidiary materials, will be responsible for producing recycled stretch film using post-consumer recycled (PCR) materials supplied by LG Chem. AJ Networks, a comprehensive distribution company, will ensure a stable supply of the products to LX Pantos.

PCR (post-consumer recycled) is a recycling technology that transforms post-consumer plastic waste through processes such as sorting, grinding, and washing into the initial raw material form of plastic pellets.

Stretch film, also known as stretch wrap, is a vinyl wrap used for securing items loaded in logistics centers or industrial sites to prevent them from shifting. Mostly made of polyethylene (PE), this disposable consumable is often discarded after a single use.

LX Pantos annually consumes about 200 tons of stretch film in Korea alone. If unfolded and connected end to end, this quantity of film would span roughly 23,000 kilometers—longer than a round-trip flight between Seoul and New York. This tripartite partnership is highly expected to reduce the increasing waste generated by the logistics industry and contribute to the creation of a resource circulation ecosystem through cooperation between large corporations and SMEs.

After successfully piloting recycled stretch film at major logistics centers such as the Sihwa MTV Center, LX Pantos confirmed no discernible quality difference compared to conventional chemical-based products. Consequently, the company has decided to fully implement recycled stretch film at all its logistics centers in Korea.

Attending the signing ceremony, Maeng Yun-ju, Business Support Office manager at LX Pantos, stated, “The MOU will set the stage for a plastic circular economy within the logistics industry and contribute to carbon reduction. LX Pantos will solidify its position as a leading global logistics company by developing various sustainable business models that create environmental and social value.”

LX Pantos is also seriously considering its transition to green packaging for several disposable materials used within the logistics business, beyond stretch film. The company published its inaugural sustainability report earlier this year, outlining an ESG management vision for it to become a value deliverer for both people and the planet.
