LX Pantos Forges Green Partnership with Air France-KLM

In a groundbreaking move towards environmentally responsible air cargo operations, LX Pantos has entered into a strategic collaboration with Air France-KLM, signaling a new era of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) utilization.

The partnership, marked by the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for SAF collaboration, establishes LX Pantos as the first Korean company to actively take part in an air cargo SAF program. This move underscores LX Pantos’s commitment to proactive carbon reduction and the strengthening of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) management in the aviation and logistics sector.

The signing ceremony, held at the French embassy in Seoul on November 15, 2022, saw the presence of executives from both LX Pantos and Air France-KLM Martinair Cargo, as represented by LX Pantos Vice President Lee Yong-ho and Air France-KLM Cargo Director (Japan & Korea) Béatrice Delpuech.

As the global aviation industry intensifies efforts to achieve carbon neutrality, SAF has emerged as a pivotal solution. In fact, SAF, which is derived from sustainable sources such as plant-based oils and renewable waste, boasts the capability to reduce carbon emissions by up to 85%, distinguishing it from conventional aviation fuel.

Through this agreement, LX Pantos will actively contribute to Air France-KLM’s Cargo SAF Program. Specifically, LX Pantos will facilitate the purchase of SAF for Air France-KLM’s air cargo transport, while in return, Air France-KLM will transparently share with LX Pantos data about its carbon emission reduction achievements resulting from SAF usage.

Air France-KLM’s Cargo SAF Program, initiated in 2020, stands as a pioneering initiative in the air cargo industry. The program aims to stimulate SAF demand and usage globally among shippers and transport companies. Despite the relatively higher cost of SAF compared to traditional aviation fuel, the environmental benefits, including an up to 85% reduction in carbon emissions throughout the supply chain, underscore its real value.

Lee Yong-ho, Vice President of LX Pantos, has emphasized the critical role of decarbonization in the future of the air cargo industry, stating, “Our participation in the SAF program is one small step to proactively respond to global environmental regulations and contribute to the decarbonization of the logistics industry.”

Béatrice Delpuech, Cargo Director (Japan & Korea) of Air France-KLM, expressed her pleasure of welcoming LX Pantos as the first Korean partner in the Cargo SAF program. She highlighted the significance of voluntary contributions from participating companies in visualizing carbon reduction achievements and paving the way for a sustainable air logistics industry.

LX Pantos has been at the forefront of addressing climate change issues, actively managing carbon emissions from logistics facilities and transportation vehicles. The company’s commitment to environmental sustainability is further evidenced by its voluntary participation in EcoVadis and CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project), two leading global ESG assessment organizations.
