Pantos Logistics Wins Certification
as an Outstanding e-Freight Company from IATA

- Wins the World’s First Certification,
Proves the Excellence of Korean Logistics Service to the World -

Pantos Logistics (CEO Yeo Sung-koo), Korea’s largest general logistics company, was certifiied as an outstanding e-Freight company by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) for the first time in the world. Pantos announced on September 30 that it had held a ceremony to receive its certification as an outstanding e-Freight company at the main conference room in its Yoido office. The event was attended by senior IATA officials, including Peter Chong, head of the Asia-Pacific operation, and Hong Dae-suk, head of the IATA’s Korean branch, as well as a number of senior Pantos executives, including CEO Yeo Sung-koo.

‘e-Freight’ is a project for paperless air freight documentation, which is hosted by the IATA. Various countries, including the UK, Canada, the Netherlands, Singapore, Hong Kong, Sweden and the United Arab Emirates, and leading global logistics companies, including DHL and TNT, have been participating in the project since 2007. The award of the e-Freight certification to Pantos is significant in that the international air transport community has officially recognized the excellence of Pantos’ logistics service.

※ The International Air Transport Association (IATA) is an international organization in the private sector, as well as a consultative agency of the International Civil Aviation Organization, a U.N. special body. The IATA conducts various semi-public roles, including the review, legislation and adoption of diverse procedures and rules on global air shipments.

※ ‘e-Freight’ was launched in 2007 with the aim of reducing logistics times and cutting trade costs worldwide based on cooperation between government agencies and private companies. Korea was designated as the seventh exemplary country for this project in 2008. With the implementation of the e-Freight project, paper documents amounting to 39 Boeing 747 freight loads, including MAWB and HMFST, will disappear, cutting costs by as much as $1.2 billion, according to IATA estimates.

In connection with its certification as an excellent e-Freight company by the IATA, Pantos Logistics began implementing ‘paperless’ documentation for shipments set for ‘departure from Incheon and arrival at Chicago’ in February 2008, for the first time in Korea. The company also developed an EDI interlink system with airliners and freight owners for the entire process of document exchange, thereby earning recognition for its advanced information technology in the domain of air logistics services.

Commenting on the certification, CEO Yeo of Pantos Logistics said, “Pantos’ acquisition of certification as an excellent e-Freight company is significant in that Korea’s logistics company has won international recognition for its outstanding logistics services. By closely collaborating with the Korea Customs Service, we will redouble our efforts to spearhead the ‘paperless trade’ project going forward.”
